Space Blackout

First-person survival-horror game
Project Overview
Experience the excitement of Space Blackout, a first-person survival-horror game that takes place in an abandoned space station near Mars.

Your mission is to restore electricity that has been deactivated due to an ancient portal created by NASA. The portal has caused electrical and gravitational anomalies, which left the station in total darkness.

As you explore the station, you will solve puzzles and deactivate the portal to bring light back to the station.

· Create an experience of suspense and mystery through the setting, setting and history of the location where the game takes place.

· Demonstrate skills in level design, environment puzzle design, level pacing and game design.

· Working with different player guidance techniques.

· Work on implementing a good lighting setting.
Goals:
· Integrating story elements into gameplay enhances immersion and tension.

· Lighting and sound design heighten atmosphere and guide player focus.

·Level design subtly directs players using visual cues and pathways.

·Resource management mechanics add tension and strategic decision-making.

·Visual feedback through HUD elements keeps players aware of their vulnerability.
Learnings:
Initial Brainstorming:
· Generated a variety of ideas and concepts for the game.
· Consolidated and refined the chosen concept.
· Determined the intended emotions and atmosphere of the game.

Reference Gathering:
· Conducted research to gather references for the game's visual style.
· Explored different settings and aesthetics that aligned with the desired emotional experience.
· Sourced appropriate assets needed for game development.

Map Blockout Design:
· Designed the layout of the space station and placement of gameplay elements.
· Defined the dimensions and proportions of the scenery.
· Utilized Unreal Engine's BSP geometry to implement the blockout.

Horror Engine Implementation:
· Integrated the Horror Engine into the game.
· Developed and implemented gameplay features, including quests, puzzles, and various systems (e.g., life system, inventory).
· Conducted multiple tests to ensure smooth gameplay and balance.

Game Beautification:
· Replaced the blockout assets with final game assets.
· Constructed the final scenario using the refined assets.
· Implemented appropriate lighting to create the desired mood and atmosphere.
· Incorporated dialogues, texts, and player guidance elements to enhance player immersion and provide guidance throughout the scenario.
